American beauty Katy Perry admits: ‘I tried to sneak rock music past my mother and the CD snapped in half’
‘Firework’ singer Katy Perry has revealed that when she was younger, she had an unfortunate experience with trying to sneak an edgy record into her mother’s house that put her off doing so again in the future.

Speaking to GQ, the songstress confessed that the first time she brought a rock CD into her parents’ house it ended up getting destroyed so she thought maybe it was a sign that she shouldn’t be listening to that kind of music:
“[It was] Incubus’s [1999] ‘Make Yourself’ album, which had ‘Pardon Me’ on it. And I brought it home at the bottom of my knapsack, with stuff on top of it. My parents never searched my bag, but my mom has got a pretty good intuition and a great connection with God, so I thought: she’s going to know something’s up.”
“So I remember going up to my room and I put my comforter in the crack of the door to make it hard to get in. And I opened it up and tried to pull the CD out and it breaks in two like the Ten Commandments. And I was like, ‘Maybe this is a sign. I should never be listening to this music.'”
Perry has admitted that her parents are both conservative Christians so were fairly restrictive with what she could and couldn’t do growing up: “There were a lot of things I wasn’t allowed to do. The worst part was not being allowed to stay over at friends’ houses. I wasn’t allowed to watch TV and had to hide my passion for pop stars. Although I have to admit now: I didn’t really miss out on much. These days I rarely turn on the TV.”
