Greg Davies’ The Cleaner’ will return for a 2nd series

BBC One comedy The Cleaner has been renewed for a second season

The popular sitcom starring and written by Greg Davies will see new episodes set to shoot this autumn.

When the showed aired last year Greg Davies revealed that he “would love to continue” with his new comedy The Cleaner, hinting at plans for a second season, as he enjoyed filming the series MarkMeets.com can confirm.

Wicky removes more gruesome remains at the scenes of new crimes, including in a theatre, an electrical goods store, and a stately home.

The show which has 7.1/10 rating on imdb follows Paul ‘Wicky’ Winstead (Greg Davies) – a crime scene cleaner based in Shropshire who tends to bump into the relatives, employers, friends and neighbours of murder victims whilst on the job.

The Cleaner is due to return to filming later this year, with Davies reprising his role as Wicky, a character based on Heiko ‘Schotty’ Schotte (Bjarne Mädel) from German comedy Der Tatortreiniger.

The show’s first season, which was written by the Taskmaster star himself, saw Zita Sattar play Wicky’s friend and police officer Ruth, while the likes of Helena Bonham Carter, David Mitchell, Ruth Madeley, Layton Williams and Stephanie Cole guest-starred.

Season 2 of The Cleaner will be the second show written by and starring Davies this year, with the stand-up comedian also fronting brand new Sky comedy-drama Safe Space, in which he’ll play a psychotherapist in a small market town who tries to control his various clients.

The cast for The Cleaner Series 2 includes: Zoë Wanamaker (Britannia), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Harriet Walter (This Is Going to Hurt), Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral), John MacMillan (House of the Dragon), Alex Lawther (The End of the F..ing World) and Susannah Fielding (This Time With Alan Partridge).

Also appearing are Roisin Conaty (After Life), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander), Rudi Dharmalingam (The Split), Joshua McCord (The Tuckers), Louis Emerick (Zapped), Amy Morgan (Mr Selfridge), Charlie Rawes (Dune), Jemma Carlton (Maxine), Shakin’ Stevens, Rebecca Lee (Call the Midwife), Cassius Thompson and Zita Sattar returning in her role as PS Ruth Edwards.

Joining Davies in the cast are Uncle’s Raquel Cassidy and Johnny English Strikes Again star Adam James.

Series 2 starts on BBC One at Friday, 24 March at 9:30PM
