Liam Neeson was back to his action hero best as he was spotted filming his new movie in County Donegal, Ireland on Sunday.

The Hollywood actor, 69, is starring in the new blockbuster, In the Land of Saints and Sinners.

Liam looked serious as he rocked a blue shirt under a dark blazer as he filmed night scenes outdoors.

In another shot, the actor can be seen by a grey horse as he spoke to a young girl with her hair in bunches.

The Taken star, will play the newly retired assassin who finds himself drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists.

The Irish movie is set to be directed by Oscar-nominated Robert Lorenz, who has previously directed Neeson in, The Marksman, which topped the box office in early 2021.

Veteran Belfast-born actor Ciarán Hinds, who recently earned his first Oscar nomination for his performance in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, is also set to appear alongside Liam.

Filming for the movie will take place over two months in the villages of Glencolmcille and Kilcar along with the fishing port of Killybegs and surrounding areas report the mail.

A number of locals have also been hired as extras for the filming, which is set to be a major economic boost for the area.

It comes after Liam revealed as well as working in action movies he can also excel in comedy after making a cameo in the season three premiere of Derry Girls.

Liam, who was born in Ballymena, is a huge fan of the Northern Irish comedy, which returned earlier this month for its third and final season.

The Taken star was introduced to the hit show by his pal Helen Mirren, according to the Daily Mail’s Eden Confidential column.

Fans of Derry Girls were left completely surprised when Liam appeared in the episode as Chief Constable Byers.

Byers questioned Northern Irish schoolfriends Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle and James after they were caught on school grounds after hours.

Viewers were open-mouthed in shock as Liam slowly emerged from the shadows of the police station, with one tweeting: ‘Liam Neeson’s cameo in #DerryGirls was the best surprise ever! Absolutely love this show.’

Liam said he was ‘delighted’ to play ‘a wee part’ in the show, adding: ‘I’m a huge fan of the series, the talented Lisa McGee’s incredible writing and the superb ensemble cast.’

‘It’s such a unique and special show with real heart and amazing to see the lives of ordinary, funny people living in Northern Ireland during The Troubles played out in a Channel 4 comedy. It was lovely to be back filming there and having fun with them all.’

He showed off his playful side as he posed with Jamie-Lee O’Donnell in an amusing behind-the-scenes snap shared to Instagram.

In the picture, the star gave a pout as he posed in his character’s black police officer uniform and put his arm around the Irish actress.

In a caption alongside the photograph, Jamie quipped: ‘Serious Acting.’
