How to Prepare for SCAT Test

SCAT stands for School and College Ability Test. It is conducted by ‘Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth’ to identify giftedness in students of grades 2-12.

SCAT is a computer-based examination, and it takes no more than an hour to finish this test. Also, results are published in 48 hours after the test. SCAT examination is an above grade test, therefore, it can get difficult without proper preparation. 

1.     SCAT Test Prep

2.     Know Your Weak Points

No one can know your weak points better than you. Work on them and try to fix them. Even on the test day, try to solve the easier questions first. If you find any question difficult, keep them aside to solve them later. Do not think about difficult questions when solving questions that you already know. Move on to a different question. In the end, when you are done with all the easy questions, sit with the difficult questions to solve them.

3.     Maintain a Schedule

Managing a proper schedule is a golden tip for any compretetive test preparation. Maintain slots for studying as well as recreation. Remember, your brain, too, needs rest. Keep different timings for easy subjects and harder subjects. Give more time to your weak points. Sleep for at least 7 hours. Wake up early to study or exercise. Exercising or yoga could be beneficial for critical thinking. Eat properly and keep yourself hydrated all the time. You cannot afford to get unwell just before the exam!

4.     Mathematics

The SCAT Examination consists of 2 sections: Verbal & Quantitative. The quantitative section usually consists of mathematical problems. Hence, if you do not have strong mathematical concepts, this examination is not for you. Your mathematics knowledge will majorly decide your SCAT Score. Keep practicing numbers whenever you get time.

5.     English

Vocabulary is important. It is not enough to know the conversational English. You have to know the nuances, understand the grammar and be able to read and understand various genres. SCAT test involves a lot of reading and writing, so do not take English lightly.

6.     Practice

Practice makes a man perfect! So keep on solving online SCAT test papers as much as you can. The more you practice, the more you get acquainted with the format of the test.

7.     Know Your Priorities

Just because you are weak in a portion, it does not mean you will study that topic the whole day. That will be a waste of time. Keep in mind that your strong points will help you fetch more marks. Make time for revising them. Do not make your weak points your only priority.

8.     Do Not Stress

SCAT Examination is for Gifted students. Acing the SCAT Test is challenging. Just because you’re unable to solve some questions of the practice series, you should not get disheartened! Prepare for the test like a fun game rather than an examination. Do not stress or overthink. Have plenty of sleep before the examination to keep your mind open and your senses sharp. Do not study any new topic at the last moment; it may ruin your entire preparation.
