Celebs Rock (And Flop) At The Bottle Cap Challenge

The internet has once again been proven to be both a weird and wonderful place, thanks to the Bottle Cap Challenge that has taken social media by storm. The video trend, which originally saw people unscrew a bottle cap with a 360-degree kick, has taken on many forms since taekwondo fighter, Farabi Davletchin, posted his attempt on 25 June this year. After Davletchin nominated a number of celebs such as Jackie Chan and Jason Statham to continue the trend, the craze took off globally, with tons of celebs and plebs alike giving the challenge their best shot. While some celebrity attempts were downright spectacular, others can only be labelled as an epic fail. Let’s look at some of the best and worst celeb contributions to the #BottleCapChallenge.

Hailey Bieber & Kendall Jenner up the ante

Hailey Bieber definitely upstaged hubby Justin (who nominated her) when she delivered a flawless rendition of the challenge while on an ATV. After recording and posting her own attempt, Mrs. Bieber promptly went on to nominate her besties to do the same, although it is unclear whether Justine Skye obliged. While Kylie Jenner probably won’t be posting videos anytime soon after her recent skincare faux pas, sister Kendall definitely nailed the Bottle Cap Challenge. After being nominated by Hailey, Kendall did what any self-respecting member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan would do – upstage everyone else! Hailey’s ATV stunt was instantly overshadowed by Jenner, who effortlessly knocked the bottle cap off while riding a jet ski. What was even more impressive was the fact that Kendall retrieved the bottle cap from the water afterwards, ensuring that the ocean is not disadvantaged by the trend.

Blondes (and Blake) have more fun

Songbird Ellie Goulding and former supermodel Heidi Klum both took a crack at the challenge. While Ellie nailed the task with the precision of a pro athlete, Heidi needed a few takes and the help of her Project Runway co-star, Tim Gunn, to get the cap off the bottle. Meanwhile, Blake Shelton failed dismally at the challenge, although his video is one of the more entertaining ones to watch. In the video, which was uploaded on 4 July, Blake is seen landing a solid kick on what appears to be a full bottle of Smithworks vodka. The bottle goes flying from its perch, and Blake rushes to its aid while crying out, “Oh, god, what have I done? What have I done?!” Towards the end of the clip, Blake cradles the bottle in his arms and runs inside the house while still fake sobbing like a true heart-broken man.

Even Deadpool took the challenge

When Ryan Reynolds did the challenge, he opted to create a super cinematic, expertly-produced, product placement video that featured his gin brand, Aviation. The video clip, which had all the makings of a television commercial, ends up in disaster though as Reynolds’ aim lets him down and he ends up destroying the bottle. Other celebs who completed the challenge with varying degrees of success include Shaquille O’Neal (who ended up hitting his friend in the face), Alexander Wang (who knocked the cap off with his hair) and, of course, Ryan Seacrest, who did the absolute bare minimum in terms of effort.

With the Bottle Cap Challenge finally starting to die down, one can only but wonder what social media trend will take the world by storm next. Whatever it is, we can be assured that, as long as the world’s most popular celebs are involved, everyone will be thoroughly entertained.
