Drew Barrymore to host MTV Movie and TV Awards promising an ‘epic night’

Drew Barrymore has been announced to host the MTV Movie and TV Awards 2023, teasing an ‘epic night’.

The ceremony is taking place at the Barker Hangar in LA on May 7, with some of the biggest names in the industry being honored.

The 48-year-old confirmed the news on the Drew Barrymore Show earlier today, with a little help from some very scary friends.

In true form, the Charlie’s Angels actress went all out for her announcement, dressing up as the creepy M3gan doll.

Drew Barrymore To Host 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards

‘I actually have news for you,’ she said as the character. ‘You’re hosting the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. How exciting!’

‘Wow, I am so honored to have been chosen, especially this year when the show is all about the fans,’ Drew said as she morphed back into herself, before Ghostface and Cocaine Bear joined her on set.

‘It is going to be an epic night. Big moments. Huge movie stars. Cocaine Bear are you free on May 7?

‘The 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards, we’ll be there. Will you?’

If that’s what Drew pulled out of the bag just for the announcement, we can’t wait to see what she has in store at the bash.

The Hollywood icon has a history with the awards, having been nominated a whopping nine times and taken away three trophies.

As well as the best kiss gong for her efforts in the Wedding Singer, she also bagged the award for best on-screen team for Charlie’s Angels, alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu.

In 2020, she landed the dynamic duo accolade thanks to her partnership with Adam Sandler.

Last year, all eyes were on Jennifer Lopez as she scooped the generation award, to celebrate her incredible career so far.

The Marry Me actress broke down on stage during an emotional speech, where she thanked her loved ones – and those who told her that she wouldn’t ever be successful.

‘You’re only as good as the people that you work with,’ she told the star-studded audience. ‘If you’re lucky, they make you better. And I have been very lucky in that regard. As an actor, I’m not any of the women that I’ve played, but there’s a part of what is deeply true to me in each one of those characters.

‘I have a different kind of list of thank-yous tonight. I want to thank all the people who gave me this life. I want to thank the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart.

‘The ones who were true and the ones who lied to me. I want to thank true love. And I want to thank the way that I lied to myself, because that’s how I knew that I had to grow.

‘I want to thank disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong and my children for teaching me to love.

‘I want to thank all the people who told me to my face, or when I wasn’t in the room, that I couldn’t do this. I really don’t think I could have done it without you. And I know I couldn’t have done it without the fans.’
