Revival of 42nd returns to London in 2023

A new production of the Broadway classic 42nd Street will open in London in 2023, it has been announced.

Directed by Jonathan Church (Singin’ in the Rain, The Drifters Girl), 42nd Street will open at Curve Leicester on 17 May 2023, where it will play until 3 June 2023, followed by a season at Sadler’s Wells in London from 7 June 2023 to 2 July 2023. The show will then embark on a UK tour with touring dates to be announced soon. Tickets for 42nd Street at Sadler’s Wells are to go on sale soon.

A spectacular homage to the world of musical theatre the show features an all-singing, high-kicking cast and some of the greatest songs ever written, such as ‘We’re In The Money’, ‘Lullaby of Broadway’, ‘Shuffle Off To Buffalo’, ‘Dames’, ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’, and ‘42nd Street’.

Premiering on Broadway in 1980, the depression era set backstage musical tells the story of a starry-eyed young dancer who leaves her small-town American home for the bright lights of Broadway. When the leading lady breaks her ankle, she takes over and becomes a star.

The show has music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Al Dubin, and book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble; it is based on the novel by Bradford Ropes. Original direction and dances were by Gower Champion.

The creative team includes choreography and design by Olivier Award winners Bill Deamer and Rob Jones. Casting and full creative team to be announced in due course.

Tickets for 42nd Street at Sadlers’s Wells on sale soon.
