One of Carell’s earliest jobs was as a rural mail carrier in Littleton, Massachusetts in 1985. He only lasted four months in the job but as he mentioned on an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, it was one of the hardest jobs he has ever had. Because he was delivering mail in a small town rather than a big city, he wasn’t given a mail truck and instead had to drive his Toyota around town to deliver the mail. He ended up quitting as he said he wasn’t great at the job and ended up moving to Chicago shortly after.

8 Steve Carell Worked As A Radio DJ

When Carell was in college at Denison University, he worked the early morning hours as a DJ at the college radio station. He was a freshman and gave himself the name “Sapphire Steve” while on the air for the first time, as a way to poke fun at his mentor, who called himself “Diamond Doug.” Doug later told Denison University that Carell was “bright, talky, and he was a lot of fun to work with.”

In 2008, Carell and his wife, Nancy, bought out a general store in Marshfield Hills that was in danger of closing to save it from doing so.
