Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical, the new Netflix movie starring Emma Thompson, is releasing a Matilda soundtrack.
The music from the movie will be released digitally on 18 November 2022, and in CD format on 9 December 2022.
The soundtrack features Grammy and Tony Award-nominated songs from the original West End production of Matilda The Musical, written by Tim Minchin and performed throughout the film, as well as an original score by composer Christopher Nightingale. The movie is directed by the stage show’s director Matthew Warchus and has a screenplay by Tony Award winner Dennis Kelly.
The cast includes Emma Thompson (Miss Trunchbull), Alisha Weir (Matilda); Lashana Lynch (Miss Honey), Stephen Graham (Mr. Wormwood), Andrea Riseborough (Mrs. Wormwood).
The movie premiered 5 October, as the opening film of the 2022 BFI London Film Festival, to rave reviews from the film critics.
Matilda the Musical hits cinemas in the UK on 25 November 2022, and streams on Netflix sometime after. In the US, the movie starts in cinemas on 9 December, and launches on Netflix on 25 December 2022.
Sony Music Masterworks are releasing the soundtrack.
