Absolutely Anything is in cinemas now and is jam packed with some of Britain’s best comedy talents including Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard and the even the voices of Monty Python.
To celebrate the film’s release we take a look at some of the best British ensemble comedies that have had cinemagoers laughing their socks off.
Monty Python’s the Life of Brian
Interestingly funded by Beatles legend, George Harrison, upon its release Monty Python’s Life of Brian in 1970 was pretty controversial due to its religious content. Voted by Empire readers as the fourth funniest film in cinema history it features the whole Monty Python gang as it follows a man named Brian who is mistaken for the Messiah. The problem is “He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy!”
A Fish Called Wanda
John Cleese leads an all-star cast in this London crime comedy about a group of people who team up to commit an armed robbery. Can you really trust a fellow criminal though? Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin make up the other members but it’s not long until they’re double-crossing each other in an attempt to steal the loot.
Shaun of the Dead
Zombies plus comedy have never worked so well in this cult comedy hit, which saw an undead invasion on North London. Absolutely Anything’s Simon Pegg teams up with regular collaborator Nick Frost and director, Edgar to create one of the freshest comedies of the 21st century. The film is a who’s who of British show business with appearances from a whole host of names including Martin Freeman, Matt Lucas, Chris Martin Bill Nighy and even Trisha Goddard!
The Inbetweeners Movie
This gross-out teenage comedy broke box office records being the biggest opening weekend for a comedy film in the UK ever! The boys made the transition from the small screen perfectly as they went on a lad’s holiday to Malia! Cue the dreadful dancing, drunken antics and cringing ‘banter’!
Absolutely Anything
Simon Pegg stars as disenchanted schoolteacher, Neil Clarke, who is given the power to do absolutely anything! What could go wrong? Directed by Terry Jones and with appearances from the rest of the Monty Python troop, Kate Beckinsale, Joanna Lumley, Eddie Izzard, Sanjeev Bhaskar,
Meera Syal plus comedy legend Robin Williams, this is one film you don’t want to miss this weekend!
‘Absolutely Anything’ is out in UK cinemas now.
