Nintendo will be at Gamescom 2023 – Switch 2 rumours have started

What secrets will be revealed in August by Nintendo?

It won’t be at E3 but Nintendo is planning to attend Gamescom, so does that mean they’ll use it to announce a new console?

Although we got our first bit of real evidence today, that Nintendo is working on a next gen console, it’s obvious they’ve been doing so for years, and many rumours still claim it will be announced or even released this year.

That still seems unlikely though, especially as Nintendo refused to attend E3 in June because it said it didn’t have enough to show. It’s not even clear if it’ll have its traditional June Nintendo Direct, and yet it will be attending Gamescom in August.

As with much that Nintendo says and does that doesn’t seem to make much sense, but already fans have begun to wonder if this means they’ll be using the German games expo as a platform to announce the successor to the Nintendo Switch.

‘We are excited to announce that Nintendo will be exhibiting at Gamescom’

Although that is a definite possibility there’s no confirmation that Nintendo is involved with the Opening Night Live pre-show event hosted by Geoff Keighley, which is where Gamescom’s big announcements are traditionally made.

Of course, they could just have a Nintendo Direct at roughly the same time but Gamescom is more of a public event than E3 ever was, and it may be that Nintendo is only going to be there to promote its current slate of games – even if by August it won’t have any major new games on its release schedules.

Games such as Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom and Pikmin 4 will still be fresh at that point though and most Nintendo games continue to sell well for years after their initial release – especially something like Pokémon Scarlet and Violent, which is getting new DLC this Christmas.

It’s always wise to be cautious in these situations, and there’s plenty of reasons this could turn out to mean nothing, but on the other hand Nintendo’s got to announce their new console at some point and Gamescom could be where it happens.

And if not, well… maybe we’ll at least get some kind of new game announcement. But since it’s Nintendo you shouldn’t take anything for granted.
