The functionality and utility of a pillow protector cannot be argued with; these bedding accessories are made with the aim of protecting our pillows, but what are they actually protecting them from? You and I. That’s the answer.
The sheer amount of sweat, skin cells, saliva, food debris and moisture we accumulate intentionally or inadvertently on our pillows create an environment that is rich and optimal for the growth and multiplication of multiple diseases causing agents such as dust mites and bedbugs.
Pillow protectors are a proven way to exterminate and prevent the cause and spread of these allergenic agents because of the hypoallergenic properties they possess. But as we previously talked about, their utility does not end there; they also come in different types and with varying capabilities; one such variant is the waterproof Pillow Protector.
These types of protectors are designed with the function of keeping liquids from penetrating into pillows. Liquids like saliva, sweat, bodily fluids, and spilled drinks that would otherwise require specialised cleaning if spilled directly onto our pillows.
Waterproof protectors usually comprise an inner insulating layer made from plastic, vinyl or other water-resistant material that keeps the liquid out, and the outer layer, the softer padding, which can be made from an array of natural or synthetic fibres. The inner and outer layers are thin and extremely malleable, so you don’t have to worry about them being too loud or cranky when you sleep.
Now, the question remains, how can your bedroom benefit from you adding a waterproof protector to your beddings? Let’s find out.
Fresh Pillows
Washing an entire pillow is definitely more tedious than cleaning any type of Pillow Covers. Besides, washing pillows made from down or feathers can lead to the subsequent growth of mould spores, essentially damaging the pillow forever.
A waterproof membrane between your pillow and all of your sweat, drool, and body oils will keep them fresh for long, so long as you stick to washing your pillow protector regularly.
Allergen Control
No one wants bugs or mites building an entire ecosystem on their mattress and pillows; I, for one, certainly don’t. Waterproof protectors control dust mites in two main ways; one, they keep the dust mites from feeding on newly shed skin cells, essentially starving them to death. And two, they keep the allergies already in the pillow from escaping and getting into the respiratory tract, where they can cause much more menace.
Bug Control
Dealing with a bug infestation just got easier; waterproof protectors are made from material that is more recipient of a deep clean and wash than our pillows and beds.
It is worthy of note to point out that bed bugs, unlike dust mites, do not feed off dead skin cells or live inside pillows; their anatomical structure is much too large for that rather, they feed directly off blood from us and live on and around beddings, so pillow protectors can only do so much in eradicating them totally.
