Played between 2 to 6 players, Pool Rummy has two standard decks of cards with each deck consisting of 52 cards and 2 jokers. The first card of the deck is placed facing upwards to indicate the beginning of the game while the other cards in the deck are kept facing down. A card called the Wild Card Joker is picked up at the beginning of the round. This card can belong to any suit and can be later used in the game along with the joker to create a sequence. The players can choose an Ace from any suit only if the chosen Wild Joker card turns out to be a Joker. Although a player can drop at any point in the game, he will receive a penalty, later added to the final score. 

Basic rules of Pool Rummy

One needs to form as many sequences and sets as possible at the start of the round with the 13 cards they have. While a player needs to form at least 2 sequences out of which one must be a pure sequence, the players with original jokers and Wild jokers can use both to form an impure sequence. The player who manages to arrange their cards the fastest wins zero points and wins the game. In each game, there is a specific high score, crossing which the player is eliminated from the game. 

Scoring in Pool Rummy

Since the objective of Pool Rummy is to receive the least points, the player who is awarded zero points wins the game. Each card carries a different point hence giving the players different points as well. While all the faces of the suits like the Jack, the Queen and the King carry 10 points each, the Ace cards also carry 10 points each. The numbered cards carry points in accordance with the number of the card. For eg., A 7 card (from any suit) will carry 7 points. The penalty of dropping also depends on when the drop was made during the game, which is all added to the final score of the player at the end of the game.
