What You Shouldn’t Believe About Delta-8 THC

Researching anything you plan on buying is essential to ensure it’s right for your needs. Delta-8 THC and other cannabis products are no exception to the rule. In saying that, not everything you read online is true or the whole story. As a result, it’s easy to make decisions based on incorrect information.

While you should talk to experts before making a hemp product purchasing decision, it can also be a good idea to read about misconceptions to be aware of. When you learn some of the most common myths associated with products like Delta-8 THC, you might find it easier to decide whether it’s right for you.

When the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law, all hemp and products made from hemp became legal at a federal level. There are just a few rules, like making sure Delta-8 THC comes from hemp and contains less than 0.3% dry-weight THC.

Myth: All Delta-8 Products Are the Same

Many people assume it doesn’t matter where you buy your Delta-8 THC goods because they’re all the same. While there are many reputable hemp product businesses in the United States, that doesn’t mean all Delta-8 products will provide the same experience

Poor-quality hemp products with ‘bargain’ price tags often feature hemp manufactured outside the United States. There is no way of knowing what toxins or contaminants are in the soil in another country.

You might also find that some businesses prioritize independent third-party lab testing more than others. If you can’t access lab reports before making a purchase, you can’t be sure that the products contain the ingredients you expect them to.

There can also be significant differences in the type of CBD and other cannabinoids present in any hemp product. Some businesses sell full-spectrum CBD goods, while others offer broad-spectrum or CBD isolate. These can all offer vastly different user experiences. Now that you know that all Delta-8 products aren’t the same, you might prioritize high-quality goods over saving money.

Myth: All THC Is the Same

Delta-8, Delta-9, and Delta-10 THC or tetrahydrocannabinol sound the same. It’s easy to assume they also make you feel the same way. However, all three have chemical differences in where the double bond on the chain of carbon atoms is. They all have the double bond, but just not in the same place!

The double bond on Delta-8 sits on the eight carbon atom. On Delta-9, it’s on the ninth. It sits on the 10th carbon atom on Delta-10. While seemingly minor, this placement can mean they produce different psychoactive effects.

Delta-8 is found in small quantities in cannabis plants. It’s considered less psychoactive than Delta-9 THC because it doesn’t bond as strongly to our CB1 receptors. People wishing to experience relief from pain, rather than a high, might be more likely to choose Delta-8 products over Delta-9 or Delta-10.

Myth: Delta-8 THC Is Illegal

If you think you’ll be on the wrong side of the law when purchasing hemp goods like Delta-8 THC gummies, you might be less inclined to buy them. However, Delta-8 THC is legal. It’s just a complicated situation regarding where you can purchase and consume it.

It’s also important to note that you may not be able to buy and use Delta-8 THC hemp goods in all US states. As of June 2023, the following states have regulated the production and sale of Delta-8 THC:

  • Minnesota
  • Louisiana
  • South Dakota
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Kentucky

The following states with legalized marijuana regulate Delta-8:

  • Connecticut
  • Nevada
  • Utah
  • Oregon
  • Maryland
  • Michigan

You likely won’t be able to buy Delta-8 THC products in these states:

  • Washington
  • Alaska
  • Rhode Island
  • Arizona
  • North Dakota
  • Arkansas
  • Montana
  • Colorado
  • Mississippi
  • Delaware
  • Iowa
  • Idaho

Myth: Delta-8 THC Can Cure Illnesses

Some hemp product businesses give the industry a bad name by promising to cure illnesses and diseases. Delta-8 THC isn’t a magical remedy. In saying that, research into it is showing promise for it to potentially help people with a raft of health problems.

We can’t yet say with any certainty that Delta-8 THC products will help people feel relaxed and provide pain relief. However, that’s what people are using it for. They perhaps wouldn’t if they weren’t feeling any positive effects.

One study found that 71% of users felt more relaxed after consuming Delta-8 THC. The same study found that at least 55% used it for pain relief. More than half chose to use Delta-8 THC over pharmaceutical drugs.

It might also prove helpful for people who have insomnia. A randomized crossover double-blind trial found that people given a placebo or active oil with 10mg/ml THC and 15mg/mL CBD over a two-week period noticed improved sleep. By the end of the trial, 60% of participants were no longer classed as clinical insomniacs. There is still a long way to go before we know the true reality of potential Delta-8 THC benefits. In the meantime, be mindful of shopping with businesses that advertise it as a cure.

Myth: Delta-8 THC Is 100% Safe

Nothing is 100% safe. Even water can have severe health consequences when you drink too much of it. Therefore, it makes sense that even seasoned consumers should take care when consuming Delta-8 THC products.

It mostly comes down to where you purchased it and how you’re consuming it. Some of the best hemp product businesses prioritize safety every step of the way. They use organic hemp grown in the United States and ensure their products go through independent third-party testing. The same can’t be said for business owners or individuals just trying to make a fast dollar.

Delta-8 THC should also be consumed in moderation. Dosage instructions are included on product packaging from reputable suppliers. When you follow dosage instructions and pace yourself, you’re unlikely to experience adverse effects. However, if you do have any questions about product safety or how particular products can make you feel, you can ask your local hemp product business owner any questions you might have.

You can’t believe everything you read on the internet, and the same goes for information about Delta-8 THC. The more research you do before buying hemp products, the more confident you can be that you’re making a well-informed purchasing decision.
