New Year New Car – list of all of the 2022 offers right here

If you’re one of many who’s now carefully planning what 2022 will bring motoring wise, perhaps a new car is on the horizon.

We’re now all looking at what the rest of the year will bring so whether you’re browsing online for your next purchase or searching for one of the many used cars for sale, or perhaps thinking of treating yourself to a brand new motor, the choice of models can be baffling – and the choice of ways to pay for it even more so.

Finance deals can be really complicated and what’s more, what are you supposed to do with your old car once you’ve got the new one? You could always part-exchange, but after years of heavy work sometimes you’d get a better deal opting for a manufacturer scrappage scheme.

Scrappage schemes are beneficial to those who have an old, low-value car, and want to buy their new one outright. The manufacturer takes your old car and scraps it for you, and in the meantime offers you a healthy discount off a new model from their showroom.

This discount can be a lot more than you’d get part exchange, and there are benefits besides the fiscal, too – often, scrappage schemes mean that an older, more polluting car is being taken off the road in favour of one that’s new, shiny, low-emitting and possibly even an electric or hybrid model.

Three manufacturers offer scrappage deals right now – here’s the lowdown on the specific offers.

Kia

If you’ve owned your car for more than three months and it was registered before 31 March 2015, you’re eligible for the Kia scrappage scheme.

This scheme can’t be used in conjunction with any of the company’s finance deals, so it’s best for cash buyers or those who are financing outside the manufacturer, such as with a bank loan. That means it’s worth punching the numbers to see if it actually saves you money or if you’d be better off part-exchanging the traditional way.

Kia offers a discount of £1,750 on its Picanto and Rio small cars, while the Kia Stonic small SUV has up to £2,250 off.

Lexus

Lexus will only accept cars to its scrappage scheme if they were registered before 1 October 2012, and you’ve owned them for six months or more.

Its discounts are the most generous here but its cars are the most expensive to begin with. You’ll get up to £3,500 off a UX SUV, as well as up to £4,000 off an ES saloon or the NX, RX or RX L SUVs.

All of these models are hybrid-only, helping cut your emissions, and with Lexus’ up-to ten-year warranty they might even carry you all the way into the next scrappage scheme.

Renault

Renault’s ‘new for old’ isn’t really a scrappage scheme but it works in the same way, guaranteeing you a certain discount off the price of one of the brand’s new models. The only requirement is that the car be registered for at least 90 days.

There are different discounts for different engine choices, but at the top level you can get up to £3,000 off a Captur SUV. There’s up to £2,250 off the Megane hatch, the Kadjar SUV and even the Zoe electric car, as well as up to £2,000 off the Renault Clio supermini. The latest model, the Arkana, is eligible for up to £1,500 off.
