Amber Heard and her role in Aquaman 2 – all we know

After her infamous defamation trial against Jonny Depp, fans are left to wonder, will Amber Heard still keep her role in the new Aquaman sequel? and will fans still watch it?

Actress Amber Heard has NOT been cut despite a public outcry when it comes to her role in Aquaman 2

The fact that the DC movie was a highlight of her acting career, actress Heard’s role in the Aquaman sequel, which is set to release early in 2023 is alot shorter than it would have been, at approx 10mins of screen-time.

DC executives ideally would have completely remake Mera’s position. So the question is should Amber Heard have been fired from the Aquaman series?

The short answer is no, with Amber Heard herself calling the rumours ‘insane’ that she was cut entirely.

“The rumour mill continues as it has from day one – inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane,” a rep for Heard said.

The statement was released after a claim that “Warner Bros decided to recast Amber Heard‘s role after screen testing the movie. They are going to be doing reshoots with Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman. which turned out to be untrue.

Heard said on the stand that her Aquaman 2 role was significantly pared down after her ex-husband’s team called her abuse claims a “hoax”. “I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn’t want to include me in the film,” she testified. However Heard has stated that she lost ‘a bunch’ of scenes with film journalist Grace Randolph reporting that her screen time has been reduced to less ten minutes throughout the whole film.

For some however this is not enough. There are millions of fans wanting Amber Heard to be cut COMPLETELY from Aquaman 2 as a whole, with a Change.org petition with over 4.6 million signitures titled “Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2”.

Its creator argues that “Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project,” and that Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment must not “glamorize a domestic abuser.”

During the trial, the 36-year-old actress admitted that she did not know if her character would make the final cut of the film. Walter Hamada, the head of the DC films segment of Warner Bros., also shared that they had considered recasting her during his testimony.

Despite this backlash against Heard’s role in the movie it appears she will retain her role in Aquaman 2, with Peter Safran reporting that “I don’t think that we’re ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure.” and that keeping Heard in the movie was just “what felt right”, but it does seem unlikely that Heard will get many other roles outside of Aquaman 2 due to her loss against Johnny Depp in their trial earlier this year.
