Hollywood actor Channing Tatum has announced he has begun writing the script for Magic Mike 2.
The actor tweeted a picture of himself staring at a bust of Matthew McConaughey, who plays Dallas in the original film.
Channing’s tweet indicates that Matthew will also be involved in the sequel to the 2012 hit movie about male strippers in Florida.
“What better way to start writing #MagicMike2 than with my old friend Dallas? #runatribe,” the actor wrote.
According to the star, the sequel will be far more upbeat and funny than the first film.
“It will be a road-trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be: crazy and fun and less slice-of-life and less drama. The first one, we had to make not so cheesy and campy; this one we are going to swing for the fences,” Channing told The Hollywood Reporter last year.
Steven Soderbergh directed Magic Mike, but it’s unlikely he will return as he is now retired. Channing hopes he will change his mind but is being realistic about it.
“We’re developing Magic Mike 2, but he really wants to be done directing movies. We’ll see. I wish people would lobby him to finish what he started: ‘Come on, man! Stop being stubborn and come back.’ I’ve said that to him, but he is a very fixed-in-his-ways guy, and if he says it, it is hard to change.”
