Chicken Run Dawn Of The Nugget First Look Including Cast & All We Know So Far

Netflix, Aardman set new ‘Wallace and Gromit’ feature, plus ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’ first-look, cast.

Netflix and UK animation studio Aardman’s creative partnership has been cemented with the unveiling of a new Wallace & Gromit feature directed by Nick Park, plus details and a first-look image of the upcoming Chicken Run sequel.

The cast includes Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levi, Bella Ramsey, Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson and more.

Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run creator Park will direct the new Wallace & Gromit feature, alongside Aardman’s creative director of Wallace & Gromit, Merlin Crossingham, with Mark Burton on board to write and Claire Jennings producing. In the film, Gromit is concerned that Wallace has become too dependent on his inventions, as proven when Wallace develops a ‘smart gnome’, with a mind of its own.

The project is set for a 2023 release, and will premiere on Netflix around the world, apart from in the UK, where it will debut on the BBC before heading to Netflix.

The Chicken Run sequel, which Netflix boarded in 2020, will be called Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Production is underway, with the film to be released on the streaming platform in 2023. It follows the birds as they attempt to break into an impenetrable fortress.

Thandie Newton and Zachary Levi will voice Ginger and Rocky respectively, taking over from Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson. Bella Ramsey will voice their headstrong daughter. Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton and Lynn Ferguson reprise their roles from the original, with new voice cast additions Josie Sedgwick-Davies, David Bradley, Romesh Ranganathan, Daniel Mays and Nick Mohammed.

Netflix and Aardman previously collaborated on 2021 stop-motion animated musical short Robin Robin.

Wallace & Gromit’s last feature was 2005’s Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which won the Oscar for best animated feature. The characters first appeared in 1989 short film A Grand Day Out, then in subsequent Oscar-winning shorts The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave.

The original Chicken Run, which was released in 2000, follows a flock of chickens determined to escape their fate at the farm where they’re being raised for the slaughter. The farm owners, Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy, have plans to turn them all into delicious chicken pies, but Ginger the chicken, a strategist and mastermind, and Rocky the rooster, a snazzy American, organize their feathery friends to escape their evil clutches.

Chicken Run is the highest grossing stop-motion animation film of all time, and a sequel has long been a dream for the team at Aardman. The studio shared that they’ve been waiting for “the right story and the right partner,” for a long time. With the success of Robin Robin, the studio felt that this was the perfect opportunity to finally pursue that dream and “bring back our poultry heroes.”

‘Chicken Run’ sequel is officially called ‘Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget’ and it will be released on Netflix in 2023.
