Dwayne Johnson in early talks for ‘The Janson Directive’

Dwayne Johnson (Fast & Furious 6) is in early talks to star in the Robert Ludlum adaptation The Janson Directive for Universal.

The book, published after Ludlum’s death, follows an ex-Navy Seal who is forced on the run when a rescue mission goes bad. There is no writer or director attached at this early stage, but according to the report, it could be a potential franchise.

If a deal closes, Johnson will also produce with Universal currently out to writers to pen the script.

The book follows a former consular ops agent who, after leaving covert operations due to the high number of sanctioned serial killings, goes into business as private security consultant. Teamed with a sharpshooter, Janson only takes assignments that he believes will lead to helping those in need.

Sources say the studio views it as a Jason Bourne-esque franchise for Johnson and is high on it.

As for Johnson, the property would mark another project that could grow into a series of films for the star who is continuing to add more franchises to his resume.

Johnson already has “The Fast and Furious” and “G.I. Joe” films keeping him busy with “Fast and Furious 7″ bowing next April and “G.I. Joe 3″ currently on the lookout for a writer. His next tentpole pic, “Hercules,” which is co-production from MGM and Paramount, bows this July and is also seen as a possible franchise.

Johnson is filming the disaster pic “San Andreas” for New Line and recently completed production on “Ballers,” which HBO has picked up to series. He is repped by WME and the Garcia Cos.
