Jennifer Lawrence joins The Flood as 2028 release date is set

Jennifer Lawrence will star in The Flood, an original sci-fi thriller from Barbarian and Weapons filmmaker Zach Cregger, with Warner Bros. scheduling its cinema release for 11 August 2028.

Cregger will write, direct and produce the film, which brings him back together with New Line Cinema. Amblin Entertainment is also producing alongside Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon.

An official plot synopsis has yet to be revealed, but Cregger has previously suggested that The Flood will take his storytelling into outer space.

Zach Cregger reunites with the team behind Weapons

The Flood follows Cregger’s successful collaboration with Warner Bros. and New Line on Weapons. The 2025 horror mystery earned approximately $270 million worldwide, strengthening the filmmaker’s reputation following his breakout hit Barbarian.

Cregger welcomed the reunion and praised his new leading actress, saying: “Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.”
