Selena Gomez wants to officially put her Disney career behind her, as she requires a professional “challenge”.
Selena Gomez wants to “take chances” professionally. The 21-year-old actress launched her career as a child working on Disney programmes.
And now that she is an adult, Selena is only interested in taking on creatively demanding roles.
“It’s easy to do the next teen film,” she explained to Variety in an interview at the Sundance Film Festival with her Rudderless colleagues William H. Macy and Billy Crudup.
“I don’t want to be a part of something like that. I want to be able to challenge myself and see how far I can go and take chances.”

Rudderless is a drama about a grieving father who discovers demo tapes made by his deceased son. This discovery inspires him to start a band in order to find closure around his child’s death.
Selena is delighted with the project and she believes her work in Harmony Korine’s controversial film Spring Breakers paved the way for her to take on such a serious role.
“I was honoured [when Rudderless director William called me]. I was lucky enough to have him see Spring Breakers,” she recalled.
Justin Bieber‘s squeaky clean on-again, off-again love Selena Gomez was photographed buying cigarettes from a local gas station in Tarzana
“I was about to head out on tour actually and he said it was a small part and I read the script and I was super excited. She had a lot of pain and anger behind her and it was the perfect opportunity for me to do that before I go and sparkly wardrobe and dance and be happy onstage.
“And it was great, like he said I’ve never really heard a story that was told like this and it was great, [and William] was incredible.”
