The Highest-grossing movie franchises besides Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lotr, Marvel and Avatar

Among the most anticipated movies each year are the inevitable sequels and prequels to beloved films, from “Star Wars” to “Ghostbusters”. With so many popular cinematic universes expanding and growing with excitement, we decided to take a look at some old favorites to see which movie franchises  are the most profitable of all time.

Studios continue to churn out more flashy, technologically advanced blockbusters than ever before, many of which are now pre-released on streaming platforms and in movie theaters. But how can new hits compete with people’s old hits? Stacker scoured The Numbers for movie franchise data for April 2022 and ranked them by inflation-adjusted gross domestic totals for all of the movies in their series. Franchise within a franchise is not included, but a franchise has an identity outside of an included franchise. For example, “Iron Man” is included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but “Batman” and “Superman” have films outside of the DC Extended Universe that qualify them for self-rating. Pink Panther

One of the oldest franchises on the list, Pink Panther started with a movie of the same name starring Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau and ended with “The Pink Panther 2” starring Steve Martin as the bumbling detective. Each of the 11 films follows the incompetent investigator as he tries to solve a variety of crimes, mostly involving stolen jewelry, and is very humorous. The live-action series that spawned the Pink Panther cartoon, which also ran for 11 seasons, and a bunch of real jewel thieves.

Francis Ford Copolla’s iconic mobster trilogy was nominated for a historic 28 Academy Awards, winning nine. The first two films are ranked #2 and #32 on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Greatest American Films of All Time. In 2020, the third installment was rereleased under the name “Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone,” and included a different beginning and ending.

Jumanji

Year: 19952019 If this list proves anything, it’s that reviving a franchise that has been dormant for years often doesn’t come easily or smoothly. However, that is not the case with “Jumanji”. The world of the 1995 film was brought back to the big screen in 2017 with an all-star cast that includes Duane Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.
