‘Under Siege’ Reboot In The Works

A classic film series (made up of two films) is getting a reboot – well one of them is!

The 1992 hit Steven Seagal action movie Under Siege is getting underway at Warner Bros report Deadline with Timo Tjahjanto directing and Umair Aleem writing. The duo have collaborated and developed the pitch together with the movie being planned to stream on HBO Max.

There’s no word yet if 69-year old Seagal will reprise his role as Casey Ryback, the ex-Navy Seal turned cook who was the only person in that movie to stop a group of terrorists from taking control of a U.S. battleship.

Movie pre-production so it’s entirely possible “If Harrison Ford can still make action films in his late 70’s, then Steven can feature in the reboot even with a bodydouble for most of the film” said red carpet promoter Mark Boardman.

“‘Under Siege’ is getting a reboot?” wrote a Twitter user whilst another tweeted “The Rock should try and get on that Under Siege reboot”

The movie, directed by Andrew Davis, grossed over $156M WW when it was released and spawned a 1995 sequel Under Siege 2: Dark Territory which minted over $104M-plus WW.

Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey starred in the first movie.

Movie maker Tjahjanto got his start by directing the V/H/S/2 segment “Safe Haven”. He went on to direct The Night Comes for Us and May the Devil Take You, both titles which premiered at Fantastic Fest and are available on Netflix. Previously he wrote and directed Killers, Headshot and Portals.

Tjahjanto is currently attached to direct Last Train to New York, the remake of the Korean hit Train to Busan for New Line. Atomic Monster and Gaumont are producing that feature alongside Gary Dauberman who wrote the script. Tjahjanto is also developing Lil Red with Christina Hodson, 8711, and Lucky Chap.

Aleem wrote the Netflix assassin action movie Kate which stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson. He also recently sold an original action adventure script The Paladin to Stampede Ventures with Greg Silverman and Jon Berg producing.

Also in the works is Aleem’s original screenplay The Beast, which sold to Endeavor Content with Pete Berg producing and James Madigan set to direct.

Aleem is repped by Verve, Adam Kolbrenner’s Lit Entertainment and attorney Marios Rush. Tjahjanto is represented by WME, Management 360 and lawyer Marios Rush.
