The annual MTV VMAs awards show takes place this Sunday (August 30th).
Demi Lovato and Pharrell are among the names just announced as performers at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The event, which takes place on Sunday (August 30th) will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California and hosted by Miley Cyrus.
Six performers were announced for the ceremony on Tuesday; Pharrell, Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, A$AP Rocky, Twenty One Pilots and Tori Kelly. They will join The Weeknd who was previously announced as performing hit single, ‘Can’t Feel My Face’.
It will be the first time Twenty One Pilots and Tori Kelly have performed at the ceremony, while Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell have all taken to the VMA’s stage in previous years.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Miley Cyrus, who promises to bring lots of surprises and taking points on the night. The pre-show will also feature the premiere of Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated new video ‘Wildest Dreams’, which the singer has been teasing on social media in recent weeks.
Swift leads this year’s nominations with nine nods overall, including seven for her hit single and video, ‘Bad Blood’. The singer is also nominated in the Best Collaboration and Best Female Performance categories.
MTV also announced they’d be honouring Kanye West with their ‘Video Vanguard’ award, which is considered the ceremony’s highest honour. Past recipients of the award include Madonna, Duran Duran, U2 and Beyonce.
