Eminem’s ‘Monster’ tops sales for 9th week

Now in it’s ninth week in the top Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Eminem’s ‘The Monster’ takes home Digital Gainer honors thanks to a 123% increase to 433,000 downloads, its best week yet according to Nielsen SoundScan. The most recent tracking week ending on Dec. 29.

The Rihanna-assisted cut sold 373,000 in its first week of availability (coinciding with the Nov. 16 chart date) but had not sold more than 300,000 in any week since. With this week’s impressive figure, tied primarily to the rise of holiday gift card purchases, ‘The Monster’ has now sold 2.2 million downloads.

Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ stays put at No. 2 with 122,000 (a 6% lift) while Justin Timberlake’s ‘The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2)’ moves 5-3 with a 21% increase to 55,000.

Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” holds tight at No. 3 in its 21st week while Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” slips 2-4 in its second. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “White Walls” falls 4-5 while YG’s “My Hitta” (No. 6), Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” (No. 7) and Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” (No. 8) all retain their last week positions.

Sage the Gemini’s “Gas Pedal” re-enters the top 10 with 11-9 skip in its 24th week as does Eminem’s “Rap God” with a 14-10 jump to close out the region.

On Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Beyonce’s self-titled album reigns for a third week at No. 1 with 310,000 units (a 17% drop). It has now sold 1.3 million in its three weeks on the chart.

Rounding out the top five are Drake’s “Nothing was the Same” gliding 6-4 in its 15th week with 32% rise to 49,000 and R. Kelly’s “Black Panties” slipping 4-5 with 44,000 copies (a 27% dip).
