Gabrielle has said she isn’t surprised when she sees pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Rihanna stripping off, because it is something female singers have been doing for years.
The ‘Out Of Reach’ singer told OK! that while it’s unfortunate that sex sells, she thinks stars cashing in on that know what they are doing.
She said: “Miley and Rihanna are young, and the reality is, sex sells. It’s horrible but let’s not pretend. These young ladies have taken it upon themselves to be more assertive about their sexualities.
“If you watch interviews with Miley after the twerking thing, this is not a girl who has lost the plot. She’s a businesswoman.
“Madonna did it before her, Gaga’s doing it now. Let’s face it, Beyonce, as gorgeous and multi-talented as she is, she’s done a video in her underwear. I didn’t see anyone moaning about that.”
Gabrielle also said that her hit song Rise, about the break up with her son’s father, didn’t affect her any more in the same way that it used to.
She explained: “Rise is a beautiful song, even though it was about an aspect of my life that was almost unspeakable.
“When I sing it, I’m disconnected from what it came from. I’m not emotionally affected like in the early days. I’ve moved on and I’m proud that I have.”
