JLo on music, life and the world cup

Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has revealed that if she could go back in time, the one thing she would differently is pay more attention to her gut instincts and not listen to her head as much.

When asked what advice she would give her younger self, JLo confessed that trusting her gut is something she would prioritise because her instincts are rarely wrong: “I would tell her to follow her gut because everything always works out in the end. The best advice I ever received was someone telling me to always trust my instincts, because you know yourself best.”

She added to Soul Cycle that she has learned to take valuable lessons away from challenging situations as opposed to letting them just wear her down, which is something she would have liked to have figured out how to do sooner:

“Everyone goes through challenges and the most important thing you can do is to learn and grow from each of them. I’ve had my own personal challenges, but I’ve walked away from them with a new sense of perspective and that’s where I find my greatest strength. I don’t have a specific mantra, but I often remind myself how lucky I am through daily affirmations. I always try to channel any negative energy and turn it into something positive.”

Lopez’s 10th studio album, A.K.A., is set to drop soon, marking her first full-length release since 2011’s Love. The singer helped usher in the World Cup on Thursday, performing the anthem “We Are One” at the opening ceremony alongside Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte. She’s also starring in a new cop drama, Shades of Blue, which is coming to NBC in 2015.
