Westlife star Kian Egan has said his band would have been disappointed with One Direction’s album sales.
The Irish singer said the number of One Direction’s Midnight Memories sold would have been considered “fairly poor” in Westlife’s heyday.
He told the Dailystar: “I was told the other day that One Direction’s album sold around 700,000 copies in the UK and it was the biggest-selling album of the year.
“Back in the day with Westlife, that would have been fairly poor, we were selling more like 1.7 or 1.8 million. Times have changed.”
He added: “There were loads of bands around then – Blue, Steps, A1, S Club – there was room for all of us.
“But now there’s only really room for one One Direction.”
The former I’m A Celebrity… winner’s debut solo album Home is set to chart in the Top Ten.
The album is currently at number nine in the midweek chart.
MarkMeets can reveal Kian is finding being solo difficult: “Doing things like what I’m doing today or anything else on the promo trail is very lonely.
“It’s very different now sitting in the back of the car up and down motorways with my tour manager
“You go to your room at night and there is no one to go for a drink or bite to eat with. It’s quiet, and weird.”
