Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds Announce New Album ‘Council Skies’ | Music News

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will release new album ‘Council Skies’ on June 2nd.

The songwriter returned at the end of 2022, sharing his crisp single ‘Pretty Boy’. Backed with a moving, memorable video, the clipped guitar chords recalled The Cure while Noel’s melancholic vocal was backed by gently uplifting lyrics.

It all leads into his new album, the first recorded at his new North London studio. Out on June 2nd, ‘Council Skies’ is a full circle moment, with Noel Gallagher laying claim to his Mancunian roots from a fresh vantage point in his life.

“It’s going back to the beginning. Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be … that’s as true to me now as it was in the early ‘90s. When I was growing up in poverty and unemployment, music took me out of that,” he says. “Top of the Pops on TV transformed your Thursday night into this fantasy world, and that’s what I think music should be. I want my music to be elevating and transforming in some way.”

The title is lifted from a book by visual artist – and Noel’s close friend – Pete McKee, while legendary Manchester photographer Kevin Cummins took the cover shot. Check this out, fact fans: the grassy roundabout is the centre circle remaining from Maine Road, Manchester City’s old ground.

New single ‘Easy Now’ is vintage Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, a rollicking yet mature burst of psychedelic-tinged euphoria. Colin Solal Cardo shot the video, which you can check out below.
