One Direction top hottest’ poll with more than 56m votes

One Direction have been named as the Hottest Summer Superstar act for 2014 by MTV fans.

The hit X Factor boyband beat Canadian superstar Justin Bieber to the top of the poll with an incredible 56,338,467 votes – more than the entire population of England.

Despite being plagued with bad publicity in the last twelve months, the Biebster himself still managed to bag more than 47 million votes to take second place ahead of Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga.

Australian popsters 5 Seconds of Summer – who have been supporting 1D on their world tour and had been tipped to take the title from their boyband pals – came in fifth place with nearly 18.5 million votes.

It total more than 333 million votes were cast in the MTV poll which ran for over five weeks on the music television channel’s website.

After receiving the accolade, 1D star Louis Tomlinson gave all the credit to the band’s legions of loyal fans.

Louis said: “We are absolutely over the moon and we realised that we couldn’t do this without you!

“You guys are the best fans in the world!”
