Boyband One Direction and Adele are enjoying worldwide success.

One in every eight albums sold around the work is by a UK artist, and One Direction are in the lead.

A report by industry body BPI shows that the Brits make up 13% of all albums sold in 2013.

One Direction’s Midnight Memories topped the list only six weeks after its release.

They were followed by Mumford and Sons in second place and Adele in third.

One Direction also appear at number five with Up All Night.

A BPI spokesman told Capital Radio: “For home-grown talent to have recorded the world’s biggest-selling album six out of the last seven years is a phenomenal achievement that says a great deal about the popularity of British music around the world.”

The best-selling albums of 2013 by UK artists were:

1.  One Direction – ‘Midnight Memories’
2.  Mumford & Sons – ‘Babel’
3.  Adele – ’21’
4.  Robbie Williams – ‘Swings Both Ways’
5.  One Direction – ‘Take Me Home’
6.  Emeli Sandé – ‘Our Version Of Events’
7.  David Bowie – ‘The Next Day’
8.  Black Sabbath – ’13’
9.  Depeche Mode – ‘Delta Machine’
10. One Direction – ‘Up All Night’
