Glastonbury Festival 2023: Friday line-up for Pyramid Stage, Other Stage and more

The first big day of Glastonbury 2023 is here with the festival’s main stages set to have their first acts of the weekend today.

Glastonbury Festival 2023 is now well underway, with several huge acts already gracing many of the festival’s iconic stages.

The first big day of Glastonbury 2023 is here with the festival’s main stages set to have their first acts of the weekend today.

Arctic Monkeys will headline the Pyramid Stage this evening. It follows concerns the band may cancel after lead singer Alex Turner became ill, forcing them to cancel a gig in Dublin earlier this month.

The Artic Monkeys will end a day of music that will see other big names such as Stefflon Don and Texas also take to Glastonbury’s biggest stage.

Elton John 4 surprise acts: Dua Lipa, Taron Egerton, Rina Sawayama and Lil Nas X. Others rumoured are Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Billy Joel.

There’s one act that’s left fans puzzled, though – The Churnups. Despite having a prime spot on the Pyramid Stage, the band doesn’t actually exist. Rumours have swirled about who will appear in the slot – with Pulp and the Foo Fighters the most heavily rumoured acts.

There’s also a secret set still to be announced over on Woodsies, formerly known as the John Peel stage, at 7.30pm just after The Courteeners will have finished their set.

Over on the Other Stage, Fred Again is sure to draw a big crowd while the Chemical Brothers will finally get to perform their DJ set from the Arcadia spider after having to pull out last year due to Covid.

If you’re one of the lucky ticketholders for this year’s festival, by now, you’ll have settled into your campsite and, hopefully, have already caught some fantastic live music (as well as figured out where your nearest toilets are, and how much a pint will set you back).

But, as you hit the halfway mark, it’s time to get serious about your schedule. With the Arctic Monkeys cancelling a recent show due to Alex Turner being struck down laryngitis, many wondered if the group would be forced to cancel their Glastonbury show.

So, as we head into the weekend, who is set to take to the Glastonbury stages on Friday, June 23?

Here is what you need to know.

Glastonbury has ‘back-up plans in place’ in case Arctic Monkeys pull out of headline slot

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has admitted there are “back-up plans” in place in case Arctic Monkeys have to pull out of their headline slot on Friday (23.06.23).

The rockers had to cancel their show at Dublin’s Marley Park on Tuesday night (20.06.23) after frontman Alex Turner was struck down with “acute laryngitis”, but Emily is confident the group will be “all right” to headline the iconic Pyramid Stage on Friday.

“I think we are going to be all right.

“They’ve cancelled that, he’s recovering. I’m sure we’re going to be all right.

“We’ve got a couple of back-up plans if not. We’ve always got back-up plans for everything.”

Quizzed about whether a rumoured appearance by US rockers Foo Fighters could turn into a Friday headline slot if the ‘Mardy Bum’ hitmakers had to pull out, she said: “I wouldn’t like to give anything away.

“You’ve got to allow the surprise to happen. It’s all about the surprise.”

Emily co-organises the music festival, which takes place at Worthy Farm, Somerset, south west England, with her father Michael Eavis, 87, and Emily admitted he is “still very much here” at the spectacle.

Speaking as the gates to this year’s festival opened at 8am on Wednesday (21.06.23), she said: “He’s going to be waving everybody in. He’s doing really well. He had a late night last night.”

Arctic Monkeys said sorry to fans after pulling out of their Irish gig earlier this week.

A social media statement posted on Sunday (19.06.23) read: “We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys’ show at Marley Park in Dublin Tomorrow.

“Alex and the band apologise for the huge disappointment this will inevitably cause to all their Irish fans. Full refunds will be credited back to the ticket purchaser’s account by Ticketmaster within the next six working days.”
