Physical banners are some of the oldest forms of advertising. To this day, they remain a popular way to grab people’s attention and build brand awareness. Banners come in all different forms from flags to throws. This post delves into 7 different types of banner that could be worth exploring.
Hanging banners
This is the classic type of banner that is usually hung from a ceiling or across a wall. Their height makes them visible over a crowd, making them a popular form of advertising at events or in buildings like supermarkets. They can be used to promote products and deals, advertise your logo/a sponsor’s logo or even to guide people in certain directions.
Feather flags
These flags get their name because they are shaped like a feather and they are typically floor-standing. You’ll find them at trade shows outside exhibition booths, as well outside entrances to stores or events. They are typically used to display a logo, but can also be used to display words like ‘welcome’ or ‘sale’.
Roller banners
Roller banners have a similar use to feather flags. They are also typically floorstanding, but are rectangular-shaped rather than flag-shaped. While sometimes used simply to display a logo outside an entrance or exhibition stand, they can also be used to provide information such as a timetable of events or information on a guide to the different floors at a museum/store. You can even print maps on them.
Cafe barriers
Cafe barriers are banners that are commonly used to mark the outdoor area of a cafe. They consist of two posts with fabric hung between them – often displaying the logo of the cafe or a promotional deal. Although called ‘cafe barriers’, they can also be used in pubs and restaurants and clubs – anywhere that has an outdoor seated area.
Mesh banners
These are a perforated form of banner that are designed to help wind pass through them – preventing them from being taken off or torn by the wind. They are commonly found on outdoor fences at events and festivals, or on scaffolding. Mesh banners may be used to simply display a logo, but can also be used to display adverts like billboards or provide information like directions to the entrance of a building.
Table throws
Table throws can be classed as a form of banner when used to display some form of information. They are commonly draped over stalls at markets or exhibitions. They can also be draped over makeshift reception desks at events or over the judge’s table at a competition. Such throws are often brightly colored to draw attention and usually display a logo.
A-boards
A-boards can also be classed as a banner. They are A-frame shaped signs that are commonly found on the pavement outside cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. They are designed to be seen from the side and may help to welcome people in or to advertise a special product/deal (such as special meals of the day or a closing down sale).
