Game of Thrones Spin-Offs: Past, Present and Possible Futures

It has now been seven years since the Game of Thrones finale. The series was based on George R. R. Martin’s novel series A Song of Fire and Ice. Despite what many thought was a lackluster close, the show still resonates in pop culture and entertainment. Hype was rife about the many spin-offs that would follow, but since then, few have emerged. Below are the forays into other areas of media you can check out today, and some that are yet to confirmed.

Snow

Possibly one of the most satisfying series that could emerge is Snow. Slated as a follow-up to Game of Thrones that checked in on Kit Harington’s character Jon Snow, rumours were that it was to follow him living alone north of the wall after the events of the final series, and would presumably have been filmed in Iceland as with the mainline series, as detailed on MarkMeets.com. Yet even for Game of Thrones, this premise was deemed too depressing, and it was an idea assumed dropped.

However, it may still get a green light. Quoc Dang Tran, the French screenwriter, is noted to be on board with the idea. There have even been rumours that he may be adding Arya Stark to the cast, which would be as close to a follow-up as fans may ever get.

Games of Thrones Slot Game

The iGaming sector is one that has been eager to add existing popular IPs to its roster. This mainly comes in the form of branded slot games, and one of the latest to launch is the Game of Thrones title. It was created by Blueprint Gaming, and recently had its second launch at BetMGM Casinos in Alberta after a record-breaking debut in Ontario.

MGM is an example of a company that has begun to utilise its brand to move into casinos and sportsbooks, blurring the boundaries of entertainment once more. As per LA Weekly, the BetMGM platform is a joint venture between MGM Resorts and Entain. Their recent push to onboard new customers and foster brand loyalty has been done through the use of bonus incentives upon sign-up. This licensing is just one more example of franchises like Game of Thrones being used to benefit adjacent industries through leveraging existing pop-culture fandoms.

The Game of Thrones Movie

There were two possible Game of Thrones movies on the cards, though it seems they have now become one. Its new title will be Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, and was confirmed at CinemaCon 2026. It will be written by Beau Willimon, who was responsible for the Star Wars Andor series script.

It seems that this will be a prequel, as it is titled Aegon’s Conquest and can be taken from the source material created by Martin. The Guardian reports that this film will show how houses were formed, and will more than likely give us a whole new cast of characters. It is not known if it will be a standalone movie or a series.

For fans of the series, there is a lot to be excited about. With both television series, movies and games in the works, the franchise is still going strong. Those who can’t wait can always check back and revisit the original series in all its glory.
