Live streaming can be extremely profitable these days
It’s no secret that some people have become millionaires from streaming. Whether it’s video games, art, music, or even just chatting, there are loads of people that have lucrative careers thanks to online streaming platforms like Twitch.
But having said that, it’s not achievable for everyone. Much like any profession, there are top earners and there are average earners. In most cases, this will really depend on how you diversify your income as a streamer and if you have something else to supplement it.
So while it can be lucrative, you should temper your expectations. You’re probably going to have to get another source of income until you get your big break.
It’s like the entertainment industry
Have you ever watched a film or series and looked at background characters? Those extras or minor roles that you don’t really think about, but know that they’re there?
That’s what it’s like to be a streamer these days, and it’s all because the streaming industry is basically like the entertainment industry. You have the A-list streamers and content creators that are well-known and have huge followings, but also much smaller ones that occasionally interact with the big stars, but generally have much smaller followings.
And much like the entertainment industry, you’ll need to fight your way up the ladder to land yourself more lucrative sponsorships and deals. You’ll have to work with agents eventually who can help you get sponsorships, and a lot of your income is going to be reinvested back into your stream and other related services.
To help you get started, there are some ways to get free Twitch followers and you can even create a YouTube account to have a stronger online presence. Being active on social media can also help, and there are even streamers that will actively work with newer content creators just to spread their name. There are a lot of ways to get your foot in the door, but it will require you to be an active participant in the industry.
Streaming as a side hustle
Most people start off streaming on Twitch as a side hustle. Perhaps they get back from work or school and they stream a bit to make friends, meet people, and show off something they like doing. If they can build up an audience and create a community, then it has the potential to transform into something big. But if you’re not consistent and can’t maintain your success, then it’s going to fizzle out fast.
