There really is no substitute for Sony’s new DualSense wireless controller. Though the layout – with the classic D-pad and circle, cross, triangle and square buttons – will be familiar to DualShock 4 users, the DualSense comes packed with fantastic new features alongside the new game console, like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. If you fancy buying two of these – giving you a handy extra controller for local multiplayer – and a DualSense charging station, you won’t regret it.

It’s taken quite some time following the launch of the PlayStation 5 – almost a year, in fact. But, Sony has finally released the update allowing users to take full advantage of the console’s additional storage capacity – a much-needed addition given its limited 825GB internal storage. Western Digital has duly obliged with a range of super-swift SSDs for your PS5 – ranging from 500GB to 2TB as well as the option for a heatsink. We tested the 1TB with a heatsink and the installation was extremely simple, with easy instructions provided by PlayStation. The SSD itself is capable of up to 7000 MB/s read speeds to keep the next-gen console running to its top capabilities across all your storage options.

One of the best Black Friday-discounts we found, to pair up with your new PS5, was Thrustmaster’s T300 RS racing wheel, so hopefully you might have already picked one of these up. It’s a 28cm diameter racing wheel with a sturdy base and pedals, as well as great force feedback we rated as superior to the Logitech G29. This was the best wheel for PS4 racing sims and, good news, it works with the PS5 – a great buy before the release of Gran Turismo 7 next year.

Asus ROG Strix Fusion 700 headset

11 cool PS5 accessories you can buy

This Asus headset, which we reviewed back in December of last year, remains one of the best gaming headsets for players looking for a third-party alternative to the Pulse 3D Wireless headset. The sound is good, with a rumbling controlled bass, and you can pair them with Bluetooth to a phone and listen to music on the go. The microphone isn’t the best fidelity, but is more than capable of delivering tactics to your teammates in Call of Duty Warzone. These headphones look the business, too, eschewing the childish flashing light displays sometimes reserved for some “hardcore” gaming items.

Sonos Arc soundbar

If you’ve splashed out on a PS5, it might also be time to invest in the pinnacle of wireless, multi-room audio. We reviewed the Sonos Arc back in June, and found it had impeccable finish, extensive spec and control options, and a spacious and impressively punchy sound. It’s not the out-and-out best Dolby Atmos soundbar around, but it’s certainly the best at this price.

Sony BRAVIA XH9005 TV

In the market for a TV? Then you need Bravia’s XH90 that comes “Ready for PlayStation 5″. It’s got all the features you need for a fantastic gaming experience, with a stunning 4K picture at 120fps, and a very low input lag of 7.2ms for all you esports champions. BRAVIA’s Game Mode setting also lets you wake up both the TV and PS5 with the DualSense and seamlessly control the PS5 using just the TV remote. If it’s not for you, there are plenty of other options in our guide to the best TVs.

Secretlab Titan gaming chair

11 cool PS5 accessories you can buy

If you’re working at home, it helps to have a chair that can fulfill a multitude of functions, from sturdy and supportive office chair to something more relaxed for chilling out on. Secretlab fulfills this need, with its highly adjustable Titan chair. It provides great support for long sessions of working or gaming, boasting a lumbar support adjuster found in high end racing cars. Or, if you need to slob out, you can extend the full-length backrest recline, relax onto its memory foam pillow, and watch Netflix on your PS5.

Seagate Game Drive 4TB Portable HDD

The paltry storage space of the PS5 is a problem – with system files, players are left with about 667.2GB of usable space. The easiest and most affordable way to fix this is with this 4TB external hard drive, which will store and play backwards-compatible PS4 games, freeing up some much-needed space.

PS VR adaptor for PS5

The PlayStation VR is a fantastic bit of kit and an affordable introduction to virtual reality. While it’s a shame that Half Life Alyx probably won’t ever be released on the console, there are still some great games and apps to try, such as Rez Infinite, Skyrim VR and Firewall: Zero Hour. If you already own the PS VR pack, good news: Sony will send you a camera adaptor for free. All you need to do is go to this website and type in your PS VR serial number.

Samsung Premiere LSP7T projector

For those who miss going to the cinema, why not splash out and bring the cinema experience home, with a UHD short-throw projector. It saves space as well, especially since your room is now doubt stuffed with PS5 accessories. This Samsung Premiere LSP7T just launched in the UK, and delivers a truly premium entertainment experience. If you’d like a cheaper option, check out our list of the best projectors.

Anker USB-C to USB-C cable

Image may contain Cable

As you’d expect, Sony generously includes a cable for charging your DualSense controllers right in the box. However, what isn’t generous is it’s length, which is fine if you sit right in front of a TV or monitor, but not if your setup leaves you any further back. Thankfully, Anker has you covered. You can pick up this 6ft Anker cable for less than £8 right now, solving any cable restrictions you could hope (or not hope) to have. Anker’s Powerline III cable is also USB-C to USB-C, unlike the USB-A to USB-C option that Sony has packed in, meaning you can use it with more modern charging bricks, too.

Pulse 3D headset

11 cool PS5 accessories you can buy

For the PS5, Sony has stepped up from its less imaginative and rather chunky Platinum headset range from the last generation. With the Pulse 3D headset, you get a more lightweight and sleek set of gaming headphones, neatly matching the new futuristic PS5 look. The simplicity in design extends to the useful and easy-to-access controls on the left earcup, simple dongle, allowing deft volume control, muting your mic and the balancing of game and chat audio. In terms of audio quality, while 3D audio may not be as revelatory as Sony touted, it is certainly a pleasing alternative to a pricier surround sound system. If you’re used to TV speakers or similarly priced headphones, you won’t be disappointed with this peripheral – the best PS5 headset around for value.
