Best winter sun destinations for 2022

Isn’t it good to be able to make travel plans again? The big summer getaway might be just around the corner, but many of us are thinking even further ahead to the cold winter months.

If you’re planning your escape to the sun this winter, we have a roundup of some of the top destinations for you to stick on your bucket list. Ready to get inspired? Read on…

Tenerife

Want to get away from the cold? With temperatures reaching a very comfortable 20⁰C in January and February, Tenerife is an excellent choice for sun-seekers.

The skyline of Spain’s largest Canary Islands is dominated by the dramatic Mount Teide. This volcano overlooks many of the beaches across the island. There are 16 beaches in total, so you have lots to choose from. Go snorkelling at the stunning Playa de las Teresitas or ride an e-scooter along thethe black sands of Playa de Los Gigantes. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike to the majestic Playa Bollullo, with its rugged cliffs and captivating views.

Barbados

Another hotspot for its beaches is Barbados. This stunning destination is one of the most captivating corners of the Caribbean and is home to feathery-soft sand and glittering waters.

But don’t be fooled. In addition to its picture-perfect beaches, Barbados is a wonderful mixture of buzzing nights and culture-filled days. This is largely thanks to the historic port town of Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the exclusive bars on the island.

Egypt

Sun-filled days are yours when you head to Egypt. The burning heat of the summer makes way for more comfortable temperatures so you can enjoy a trip to the Valley of the Kings,

experiencing all this magical country in northeast Africa. The cooler weather makes this a great time to take a river tour along the Nile, too. You can sit on the deck of the boat and see the country from a different perspective.

Once you’re back on dry land, tuck into delicious street food in Cairo, and even hit the main tourist sites. There are fewer tourists at this time of year, so you can soak up the sights without having to battle with others to get a good picture of the pyramids and Great Sphinx of Giza.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has become a must-visit for adventurous travellers recently. In fact, it was named the best country in the world to visit by one of the leading names in the travel world – and with its temples and ruins, wildlife, rainforests and beaches, it’s easy to see why.

The island country to the south of India has undergone a renaissance in the years since the end of the civil war. Tourists have flocked here to experience the laidback way of life and temporarily live alongside the wild elephants and leopards.
