Abbey Clancy tones down accent for TV

Strictly Come Dancing champion Abbey Clancy is reported to be trying to ‘tone down’ her Scouse accent in an attempt to secure lucrative TV presenting jobs.

The model – who recently won a £250,000 contract to be the new ‘face’ of Michelle Mone’s Ultimo bra – is hoping for more TV work in the wake of her Strictly success.

The Mirror quoted a ‘close friend’ as saying: “Winning Strictly has given her a massive boost. She has been inundated with offers, but thinks toning down her accent will open more doors.

“Her relatives have been ribbing her about it after noticing the difference, and she has been looking up techniques to speak slower and a bit more clearly.

“They think she sounds more southern. It has all been very tongue-in-cheek.”

The change in her speech had been noted by some fans when Clancy appeared at the National Television Awards in January, but a source close to the star was keen to play down the significance of the move.

“Abbey is hugely proud of her Liverpool roots,” they told the newspaper.

“She loves the city. She would hate for anyone to think differently. Liverpool will always be close to her heart.”
