Celebrities love being on screen and now more than ever we are seeing a range of a-list celebrities on our TV sceens, as they sim to reach a newer, larger audience worldwide.
Everyone knows about the most popular movies on Netflix and the prominent actors. But are you familiar with the well-known celebrities who first came to public attention, and we found them thanks to the existence of such a fantastic streaming platform?
Many of these superstars are also enjoying their success beyond Netflix on the big screen.
Some of these superstars were already seasoned performers but received their debut via Netflix. In addition, some individuals who weren’t actors have risen to fame due to the streaming service.
We’ve chosen eight individuals who have become superstars only because they appeared in a Netflix show.
Eight celebrities who were discovered because of Netflix
1. Mike Colter – Luke Cage
Mike Colter studied and trained as an actor, although his most notable part was in the television show “The Good Wife.” He also had supporting roles in the movies Brooklyn Lobster and Salt. Nonetheless, this was all in the past, before he became famous as Luke Cage. The Defenders and Jessica Jones have since cast him in the same role. In light of his recent acting achievements in Luke Cage, he has received a nomination for a prestigious prize.
2. Jon Bernthal – The Punisher
Jon Bernthal has had supporting appearances in numerous good films, including The Wolf of Wall Street and Sicario. In addition, the actor appeared in The Walking Dead, but he could never break through to the level of stardom that was undoubtedly his.
A chance at stardom finally presented itself, and he got the role of Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Netflix series Daredevil. The audience adored his performance so much that he got his show, The Punisher.
3. Jim Jefferies – Stand-Up Comedian
It wasn’t until the release of Jim Jeffereies’ Netflix specials, Bare and Freedumb that Americans got his Australian brand of humour. The success of his Netflix specials has allowed him to go from a nightclub to a concert hall audience, where he previously struggled to find a willing audience. This celebrity, he says, is all thanks to the streaming service Netflix.
4. Taylor Schilling – Orange Is the New Black
Although in supporting parts, Taylor Shilling has appeared in movies including Argo and The Lucky One. She also appeared as a nurse in the television series Mercy. But her role as Piper Chapman, a female prisoner, in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black brought her widespread acclaim. Piper Chapman gets a sentence of fifteen months in jail for delivering money to a drug dealer.
The Titan, a high-budget science fiction film, was her ticket to the big screen, and her stardom on Netflix was primarily responsible for this.
5. Ellie Kemper – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Some of Ellie Kemper’s fame stems from her supporting roles as a receptionist on The Office and in the film Bridemaids. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, a Netflix comedy series, made her famous as the title character, a young woman rescued from a cult and forced to start over in New York City.
Emmy nominations have been submitted for the show eleven times. Kimmy Schmidt has proved to be unstoppable for the show’s success and her subsequent career.
6. Krysten Ritter – Jessica Jones
aIn her long career, Krysten Ritter has performed supporting parts on shows including Gilmore Girls and Veronica. In Breaking Bad, she portrayed Jesse Pinkman’s girlfriend, who tragically passed away from a heroin overdose.
She became well-known because of her role as Jessica Jones on the Netflix show of the same name, in which she played a former superhero who has now become a private detective. The series took home the prestigious Peabody Award, while the actress was honoured with both the Saturn and Critics’ Choice honours.
7. Clair Foy – The Crown
Though she is now known for her role as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown, Clair Foy was not always famous. She had several jobs, including cashier at Tesco, bartender, security officer, telemarketer, and piano instructor.
In preparation for the part that would launch her to fame, she attended Oxford Drama School and appeared in various BBC shows.
8. Katharine Langford – 13 Reasons Why
Katharine Langford was not a huge star until 13 Reasons Why and didn’t set out to become an actor until much later.
Before beginning her acting career, she was a competitive swimmer at the national level. Then, inspired by Lady Gaga, she began practicing her vocal skills. Ultimately, however, she decided to join the theatre, which was the best thing she could have done.

We’ve all heard about famous Netflix celebrities from our favourite series and movies. However, most individuals are unaware of their previous life before becoming popular on Netflix. So we listed eight famous people who were either doing something different from acting at the time or were not as well-known as they are today.
Some well-known celebrities originally intended to pursue other lines of work, but fate brought them into the entertainment industry instead. Some of the others were actors playing supporting roles while waiting for their big break.
