Former Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole WILL return to The X Factor judging panel for its eleventh series, Simon Cowell has confirmed.

The media mogul – who announced his own comeback to the UK version of the talent contest earlier this year – took to his Twitter page to end months of rumours about Cole’s involvement.

He wrote: “It’s official. Cheryl is back.”

Simon added: “Be careful what you wish for! Most importantly she is a brilliant judge of talent.”

Meanwhile, Cheryl posted a picture of herself and Simon on her official Instagram page with the caption: “GUESS WHAT!!.. I’m baaaacccckkkkk!!!! #iMayActuallyRingHisNeck“

The ‘Call My Name’ singer’s decision to rejoin the show marks the end of her rift with Simon, which begun in 2011 after they both headed Stateside to launch The X Factor USA.

She was dropped from her judging role just three weeks in to filming, with Simon reportedly believing that she’d be more at home on the UK version amid claims that Americans found her Geordie accent too hard to understand.

However, she refused to take up her post back in Blighty again and left the show altogether, with Tulisa Contostavlos taking her place.

Cheryl’s relationship with Simon had been strained ever since. However, recent signs of improvement – including an appearance as Gary Barlow’s guest mentor at last year’s Judges’ Houses – paved the way for his attempt to win her back.

The 54-year-old had revealed he was in talks with Cheryl at the Britain’s Got Talent auditions last month, saying: “It’s about whether she wants to deal with it again.”
