Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness Characters Ranked

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Wanda Maximoff turn into the destructive Scarlet Witch and become a formidable antagonist. With her immense power, and her knowledge of both witchcraft and chaos magic, Wanda was a force to be reckoned with.

While many characters from several universes fought valiantly against her in the film, no one made it out unscathed, many not even alive. However, many of these heroes fared much better than others in their battles against the fearsome Scarlet Witch.

10 All of Kamar-Taj

It’s clear that the situation is serious when it takes what Doctor Strange calls “the full might of Kamar-Taj” to stand against the Scarlet Witch. This scene was all about showing off Wanda’s power and it demonstrated that the sorcerers are her weakest opposition in this movie.

All it took was Wanda infiltrating the mind of one weak link in the chain of sorcerers holding up a shield and the rest of Kamar-Taj fell easily. Many lives were lost as Wanda effortlessly annihilated almost everyone between her and America.

9 Mr. Fantastic

Although Reed Richards could still show up somewhere else in the MCU, he doesn’t come across as an especially powerful character in this movie and is literally shredded by the Scarlet Witch’s power almost instantly in his fight against her.

Out of all of the Illuminati members who fight the Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness, Mr. Fantastic’s powers seem to be the most useless against her. He dies stretching his hand out toward her, but it’s hard to see what he could have really accomplished even if he had reached her.

8 Black Bolt

Black Bolt showcased his powers in the flashback scene where he destroyed the Dr. Strange of universe-838 with a mere whisper. With his deadly voice, the beloved comic book character could have easily destroyed Wanda, if only he got a chance to open his mouth.

Alas, he never gets the opportunity as Wanda skillfully erases his mouth altogether. The result? Black Bolt’s muffled scream blew his own head up in one of the most shocking scenes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A power even as great as his is easily flipped and turned into a burden in a fight against the Scarlet Witch.

7 Captain Carter

Peggy’s courage as Captain Carter was highlighted in the What If…? series, and it is reflected again in this Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Faring better than some of the other Illuminati members, Peggy fights Wanda’s magic with nothing but her shield, her fists, and her determined will.

Of course, even the first Avenger of universe-838 cannot overpower Wanda’s wrath. Despite Peggy’s claims that she “could do this all day” gives her a swift death that’s fit for a horror movie fan by throwing her own shield back at her at great speed.

6 Captain Marvel

The sheer power of Captain Marvel’s abilities had already been established in Avengers: Endgame when Carol almost fought Thanos off singlehandedly. Doctor Strange in the multiverse of Madness‘ version of Captain Marvel shows the same immense strength and determination, even when facing a much stronger opponent than Thanos.

Unfortunately, her powers aren’t enough to defeat the Scarlet Witch, despite her determined efforts, and she’s crushed by a statue. What makes her defeat worse is the fact that she underestimated the “little witch” mere moments before being bested by her.

5 Professor X

As the last standing Illuminati member left facing off against Wanda, Professor X puts up a different kind of fight against her, taking the battle to a mental playing field rather than fighting her physically like the rest.

Although the Scarlet Witch breaks his neck, he does manage to stall Wanda, giving America and Christine enough time to escape, making his fight against her seem a lot more successful than the other Illuminati members.

4 Wong

As the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong has an incredible skillset, impressive power, and seemingly-limitless wisdom when it comes to all things magic. Though he is the Scarlet Witch’s prisoner for most of the rest of the movie after Kamar-Taj falls, he does survive certain death several times through sheer toughness.

He is amongst the handful of characters who survive the Scarlet Witch’s attack on Kamar-Taj and then later survives after being pushed off of a cliff by Wanda. When he shows up to help Doctor Strange in the final battle, he manages to help subdue the Scarlet Witch long enough for America to get free and fight back against her.

3 Doctor Strange

Stephen Strange’s powers and skills are renowned within the multiverse, and his magical ability allows him to rank highly amongst the magic users in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, even he falls victim to Wanda’s deceptive hex and later cannot contain her despite his best reality-bending efforts.

Yet, he still continues protecting America while expanding his powers beyond his comfort zone, like when he reigns in the souls of the damned. Although he ultimately doesn’t defeat the Scarlet Witch in battle, he’s instrumental in stopping her.

2 Wanda-838

Wanda-838 was unable to resist Wanda-616’s dream walk into her body, despite seeming to possess the same abilities as her and this is likely because this alternate version of Wanda appears to not be privy to the Darkhold – and therefore also unaware of her true potential as the Scarlet Witch.

However, she’s really the key to stopping the Scarlet Witch from universe-616 as she talks her down and finally makes her accept that her children will exist and be loved, even if they’re in another universe.

1 America Chavez

America Chavez’s powers are not fully explored in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is unfortunate, given that America finally grasping her powers is what ultimately brings a stop to the Scarlet Witch.

Having the ability to travel between multiverses, along with delivering a powerful right-hook, gives America many advantages, such as being one of the few to actually land a blow on Wanda. It’s going to be interesting to see how powerful she can grow to be.
