Hawkeye spin-off ‘Echo’ release date, cast news spoilers speculation

Marvel Studios is wasting no time in bringing Echo to Disney Plus, with filming already underway on her solo series mere months after the character’s impactful debut in the recent Hawkeye series.

The spin-off will continue the story of Echo/Maya Lopez, adoptive daughter of the villainous Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), who was last seen seeking bloody revenge on him for his involvement in the death of her biological father.

Among the rumours doing the rounds about this series is that Charlie Cox will appear as Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil, having recently been re-introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Daredevil and Echo do have a history together in the comic books, so narratively it would make sense for the characters to share the screen, but we should stress that Cox’s casting is unconfirmed for the time being.

However, we do know that Reservation Dogs star Devery Jacobs will appear in the series, with Deadline reporting that she will play a “resilient and strong willed” young woman named Julie.

Spoiler warning for Hawkeye

When will Marvel’s Echo release date be?

There’s no confirmed release date for Echo just yet but, as filming is underway as of April 2022, we would predict that the show could be on our screens as soon as early 2023.

The show was only officially confirmed by Disney Plus and Marvel in November 2021, after its development was first reported earlier in the year.

Marvel’s Echo cast

Alaqua Cox will reprise her role as Echo/Maya Lopez from Hawkeye in the new spin-off series.

In April 2022, as the series commenced filming, it was announced that Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs) would co-star as a new character named Julie, but little is known about her role besides the name.

Despite the dramatic events of the Hawkeye season one finale, Fra Fee is keen to return as Maya’s former friend and fellow Tracksuit Mafia member Kazimierz “Kazi” Kazimierczak, who tragically died by her hand.

He told Radio Times earlier in December 2021: “I mean, are you kidding? Of course, I would love to be part of it. But my phone is on at the moment, and there hasn’t been a phone call just yet. We’ll just have to wait and see. Who knows?”

Other members of the Tracksuit Mafia could return, while we also expect Zahn McClarnon to put in another flashback appearance as Maya’s murdered father, William Lopez.

It is also strongly rumoured that Vincent D’Onofrio could reprise his role as Maya’s adoptive father Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin, with some sites adding that his Daredevil co-star Charlie Cox could join him.

Alas, there has been no official confirmation of either at this stage, but watch this space for details.

We should also not rule out cameos from fellow Hawkeye cast members Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).

Marvel’s Echo plot speculation

The Echo series will pick up after the events of Hawkeye.

We suspect the series will continue to focus on Maya’s relationship with the Kingpin and her criminal connections, even if she is attempting to forge a new destiny.

The final episode of Hawkeye saw Maya turn her back on the Tracksuit Mafia and lose her beloved best friend Kazi.

Confronting a wounded Fisk in her final scene, Maya pointed her gun at the man responsible for the death of the two most important people in her life and Fisk tried to talk his way out of it.

The camera panned upwards as we heard a shot ring out and the sound of a body dropping down.

Did Maya really kill the Kingpin? That’s one of the questions Marvel have yet to answer, but fans are sceptical given the anticipation around the character’s return.

We will be sure to update this page as soon as official details emerge.

Is there a trailer for Marvel’s Echo?
