In last night’s Dancing On Ice 2014 results, Bonnie Langford and Sam Attwater landed in the bottom two with the judges choosing to send Bonnie home in the skate off.
ITV have played down reports that Dancing On Ice could get a reprieve on the channel.
This year’s all stars series is set to be its last but reports yesterday suggested that it could return, minus coaches Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
“Dancing On Ice may not pull in the numbers it once did but it is still a huge ratings winner for ITV,” a source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper. “There’s no proven show in line to replace it which is a worry for channel bosses.”
Robin Cousins was quoted as backing the plans, saying: “The format can work without Jayne and Christopher. The question is whether they [ITV] would want it to.”
Unfortunately for DOI fans, it doesn’t sound as though they do want it to.
An ITV spokesperson told the Daily Mirror newspaper today: “Torvill and Dean are the most successful ice dancing partnership of our generation and brought huge integrity, skill and professionalism to the show and with their departure, it feels like the series has reached its natural end.”
They added: “It is always a difficult decision to say goodbye to successful and long running shows but with change comes opportunity and the chance for us to bring in new and exciting programmes for our viewers.”
Dancing On Ice 2014 continues with its latest live performance show next Sunday night on ITV.
This Sunday night they’ll all be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Jayne Torvill and Christopher’s Dean Bolero with an 80s themed night.
