Neighbours returning in 2023

‘Neighbours’ is returning to our screens again next year

The soap ended in July after 37 years, but in a shock move it is coming back for a brand-new series next year after being saved by Amazon Freevee.

A tweet on the official ‘Neighbours’ Twitter account read: “Breaking News from Erinsborough!

“Neighbours will return for a brand-new series next year exclusively on @AmazonFreevee, alongside thousands of episodes from previous seasons to stream as you please.”

Series stars Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Jackie Woodburne are all returning for new episodes, which will arrive in the second half of 2023, the team told MarkMeets.com

Lauren Anderson, head of AVoD original content and programming, Amazon Studios, said: “‘Neighbours’ has captivated its audience for nearly 40 years, building a dedicated and loyal following for the lives and stories of the characters on Ramsay Street.

“With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of ‘Neighbours’ episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favourite moments. We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers.”

Neighbours is set to return to TV screens next year after Amazon saved the beloved Australian soap. Production on ‘Neighbours’ will begin in early 2023, and the soap will return in the second half of the year.

Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson), Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy) and Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi) are all set to return to the soap. In July, Alan admitted he felt overwhelmed with emotion during his last day on ‘Neighbours’.

He said at the time: “It was very hard to fight back tears as we were saying the dialogue for what was going to be the last moments of the show.

“There were hundreds of people in the studio to watch that final piece of filming. We had some speeches, I said a few words. There were some tears. There were some celebrations.”

In Australia, the series will return to Channel 10 for first-run episodes but will be available a week later on Amazon Prime Video, which will also host the series for viewers in New Zealand and Canada.

Devotees of the soap in the UK and US will be able to watch it on Amazon Freevee.

Neighbours will go back into full production early next year, with new episodes to roll out later in the year.

The show – which produced nearly 9000 episodes and created Hollywood stars including Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth and Guy Pearce, as well as singers Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia – first announced the end of production in March after UK TV network Channel 5 ended its deal to air the show in the UK, which was vital to the production of the series.
