Doctor Who supremo Steven Moffat made the comments to Matt Matt as the actor left the Tardis in the sci-fi show’s Christmas special.
He said to Matt: “I’m glad I don’t have two hearts because they would both be breaking at the moment. I have a complaint against time travel. I would like today not to have arrived.
“Everybody: a big round of applause for the best and bravest Time Lord of them all: Matt Smith.”
The showrunner’s farewell to Matt is seen in the BBC’s DVD extras release of the festive special, The Time Of The Doctor, which aired on Christmas Day and was watched by millions.
The scenes also show Matt, 31, breaking down in tears at the read through of his last ever scene as the Doctor.
The actor starts to get upset as he says the words: “I will not forget one line of this, not one day I swear, I will always remember when The Doctor was me” and is then overcome with emotion.
Peter Capaldi took over as the 12th Doctor from Matt and is currently filming for series eight, which is due to air on the BBC from August.
