ITV1 drama Unforgotten returned but although fans were thrilled to see it return, there were a few issues that they raised with the broadcaster.
The police drama – up against BBC1’s Better in the schedules at 9pm – came back after a two year absence.
Actress Sinéad Keenan, from Dublin, takes on the brand new role of DCI Jessica James alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar, who has played DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan in four previous series of the cold case murder drama.
In a big twist at the end of series 4, Cassie was killed in a car crash. She later died from brain injuries, with the team – especially Sunny – grieving the loss. The series ended with Sunny visiting Cassie’s grave.
The new series opened with Sinead’s character trying to crack the case surrounding a severed leg found inside a chimney.
And although Nicola Walker is gone, the series hasn’t forgotten her (aptly enough), with her police partner having to clear out her stuff from the station and new replacement DCI Jessica James rubbing colleagues up the wrong way.
But although many viewers found the drama gripping and were thrilled to see its return, there were four major complaints that surfaced from viewers as the episode unfolded.
Unforgotten series 5 has arrived on ITV – here’s a full run down of who’s on the cast.
The new episodes welcome Sinéad Keenan as DCI Jessica James alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar who returns to play DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan. The new series of Unforgotten began on Monday, 27 February at 9PM on ITV1 and continues weekly on TV. Alternatively, you’ll be able to watch online via ITVX with all episodes dropping on Monday 27 February.
A teaser for the new series shares: “The series opens with the clock ticking down to DCI James’s first day in her new job with an unforeseen and devastating introduction to her family life. Determined to make a good first impression with her new colleagues, will Jess be in the right frame of mind to deliver and inspire the team?
“And inevitably how will the ghost of much-loved former colleague Cassie Stuart haunt her? After all, Cassie will be big shoes for her to fill. Does she have the resolve, professionalism and spirit to live up to her much-admired and respected predecessor?”
