The Voice UK coach Will.i.am has revealed that he supports Cheryl Cole’s decision to return to The X Factor’s judging panel.
The ‘Scream & shout’ Myself’ rapper is a mentor and close friend of Cheryl’s, having executive produced her first two albums and collaborated with her on the top 5 singles ’3 Words’ and ‘Heartbreaker’.
So it was inevitable that he’d be asked about her big comeback to the ITV talent contest, which was confirmed by Simon Cowell earlier this month.
Will was a bit coy when questioned about the news by The Sun’s TV Magazine, but did suggest that he’s backing the former Girls Aloud star.
“If that’s what Cheryl wants,” he commented. “She’s cool. I was with her a couple of weeks ago.”
He also had some kind words to say about Simon, whom he’s praised before – but also accused of failing to properly nurture X Factor contestants.
“Simon’s a nice guy,” said Will. “If you think of the Kelly Clarksons, the Jennifer Hudsons, the One Directions, he’s freakin’ spot-on. He’s helped people fulfil dreams, he’s a pretty cool guy.”
The 39-year-old was speaking ahead of The Voice’s first live final, which airs tonight at 6.45pm on BBC One.
