The Murder She Wrote star is reportedly lining up new stage projects
Dame Angela Lansbury has “no intention” of retiring from theatre following her final appearance in Blithe Spirit this Saturday, according to Tim Walker of the Telegraph.
Talking to Walker, Lansbury said: “I like the idea of doing Enid Bagnold’s The Chalk Garden, now that is an interesting play. I also rather fancy the idea of a Restoration comedy.”
The 88 year-old actress will take a “short break” after the closure of Blithe Spirit, for which she has received nightly standing ovations. Commenting on the reception she has received, Lansbury said “I think it is simply an expression of astonishment that I am still able to put one leg in front of the other.”
A cabaret event, held at Cafe de Paris and named I Went To A Marvellous Party after the Noel Coward song of the same name, was organised by fellow cast member Janie Dee who provided entertainment along with Blithe Spirit cast members Charles Edwards and Jemima Rooper. Imelda Staunton also provided an impromptu performance and another Dame, Dame Edna creator Barry Humphries was said to have stolen the show. Christopher Biggins introduced Dame Angela, as seen in the video, taken by a guest, below.
