Gorillaz star reveals he hopes to pen the family-friendly “mainstream musical” in September..
According to The Daily Star, the Blur frontman is quoted as saying that he will start writing a family-friendly “mainstream musical” in September.
When speaking to the tabloid, Albarn describes it as “in the spirit of Lionel Bart”, explaining: “It’s funny for me to say ‘I’m writing a musical’, but, yes, that’s what I’m doing next.”
The Everyday Robots singer – who has penned two operas in the past – went on to add: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do because musicals are great when they’re done well.
“(Originally it) was going to be a left-field, experimental opera. But it’s lurched into a mainstream musical for families.”
The Gorillaz star’s previous opera project Monkey: Journey to the West and Dr Dee first premiered at the Manchester International Festival in 2007 and 2011, before eventually reaching the US, France and the O2 Arena in London.
