The West End is a great place to take the kids in the Summer holidays, packed with museums, parks, exhibitions, attractions and, of course, fabulous theatre.

Here’s a selection of family and kid-friendly West End shows that will keep the whole family entertained this Summer 2022.

Musicals for kids

Big West End musicals for kids and families running throughout the summer include Back to the Future at the Adelphi Theatre, Disney’s Frozen The Musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane; Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre; Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the London Palladium; Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre; and the RSC’s Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre.

Plays for kids

New plays running in the West End that are suitable for families include a sumptuous production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the Gillian Lynne Theatre; the RSC’s brand new adaptation of the smash-hit animated movie My Neighbour Totoro at the Barbican Theatre; Horrible Histories – Terrible Tudors at the Garrick Theatre, plus a new Horrible Histories experience on a boat on the Thames – Horrible Histories Live Onboard! Terrible Thames.

Also back in the West End this Summer are smash-hit kids classic Room on the Broom at the Lyric Theatre, and The Tiger Who Came To Tea at the Theatre Royal Haymarket Theatre.

Shows for older kids

For older kids then seeing a classic play could be the start of a life-long love affair with theatre, so consider Amy Adams in Tennessee William’s American classic The Glass Menagerie at the Duke of York’s Theatre, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke in Chekhov’s masterpiece The Seagull at the Harold Pinter Theatre, and Life of Pi at the Wyndham’s Theatre.
